El cheapo approach to muting the toms actually works surprisingly well.

Zildjian L80 cymbals (80% quieter than normal cymbals) and a set of Remo SilentStroke heads (also much quieter than normal heads). Much more neighbour-friendly than the original setup at full-blast.
